An idiom is an expression that means something other than the literal meaning of the words. As the temperature starts to drop, we wanted to share some “cold” idioms with you that you can try out this month.
Break The Ice- to get something started, to become friends with someone. Example: “A new co-worker started today and I asked her to have lunch with me to break the ice.”
Freeze Up- to become scared and anxious and be unable to continue with something. Example: “I was really excited to ski a difficult hill, but I had to take the chairlift down because I froze up.”
Out In The Cold- not informed about what is happening or has happened, excluded. Example: “I felt like I had been left out in the cold when I was the last to know about our new boss.”
Chill Out- to relax or calm down. Example: “My busy day at work has left me tired so I am going to go home and chill out tonight instead of going to the party.”
